Perhentian Dive Trip
Went to Perhentian (East Coast of West Malaysia) for a weekend diving holiday. I must say it was pretty doubtful whether or not I would be able to dive. I was having a cold and my eustachian tube on my left ear was jammed shut. It was shut so tight I couldn't blow air into my ear for 3 days!

I tried oral decongestants like Sudafed (Clarinase) and sprays like Afrin and nothing worked. My only hope was prayer and boy did I pray and confess healing upon myself. Even on the boat on the way to the dive I was having problems. But when I dived into the water, everything was clear. It was still problematic when I was on the boat and about to jump in.

This has got to be a healing miracle! Praise Jesus!

I ended up clocking 6 dives, with equalizing my middle ear so easy, it was easier than my previous dives even!

Also, I brought along my brand new Scubapro Jet Fins. It's a 40 year old design but the Divemaster told me it was a great pair of fins. And it rocks! It's very powerful!
Strange Bug in Weblogic 8.1

This must rank as one of the strangest and hardest to track bug I've ever encountered. As I was working on Weblogic 8.1 and Oracle 9i, I discovered that in some methods where I insert or update a column containing a String (mapped to varchar) and java.sql.Timestamp (mapped to Date), the String's first few characters became corrupted in the database!

After four hours of bug hunting, I realized that there is due to a very, very strange bug in the Oracle Thin Driver bundled with Weblogic 8.1. This post verified it and everything worked wonderfully after I copied a classes12.zip file into the server and made Weblogic load this CLASSPATH ahead of weblogic.jar

I work mainly with JBoss, and what this experience tells me is that for all the money paid for Weblogic licenses, getting more bug free software doesn't seem to be one of the benefits!
